Description
The Vodka Martini, often referred to as a "Vodkatini" or "Kangaroo," is the vodka-based version of the world-famous Dry Martini. Made immortal by James Bond's famous line "shaken, not stirred," this drink replaces the botanical gin with the clean, pure power of vodka. The result is a smoother, less herbal, but equally potent cocktail. The quality of the vodka is crucial to the taste here.
Preparation
- Fill a martini glass with ice to pre-chill it.
- Add vodka and dry vermouth to a cocktail shaker filled with ice cubes (for the "shaken" version) or a mixing glass.
- Shake vigorously or stir until the vessel is ice-cold.
- Discard the ice from the cocktail glass.
- Strain the contents through a bar strainer into the ice-cold glass.
- Express a lemon peel over the drink or add a green olive as a garnish.
