Description

The Old Pal is a classic cocktail from the 1920s and is often described as the "dry brother" of the Boulevardier. Both drinks share rye whiskey and Campari as a base, but the Old Pal uses dry vermouth instead of sweet. This simple change results in a significantly drier, more herbaceous, and spicier flavor profile. It is a sophisticated, stirred drink for lovers of the Negroni and other bitter aperitifs who appreciate a strong whiskey note.

Preparation

  1. Fill a tumbler glass with a large, fresh ice cube.
  2. Add all ingredients to a mixing glass filled with ice cubes.
  3. Stir for about 30 seconds until well-chilled.
  4. Strain the contents of the mixing glass through a bar strainer into the prepared tumbler.
  5. Express a lemon peel over the drink and add it as a garnish.
