Description

The Dirty Martini is a popular variation of the classic Dry Martini for those who enjoy a savory twist. The "dirty" part of the name comes from the addition of olive brine (the liquid from the olive jar), which gives the drink a slightly cloudy appearance and a distinctive salty, umami-rich flavor. It is a very potent and sophisticated cocktail, with its quality heavily dependent on the quality of the gin (or vodka) and the olive brine used.

Preparation

  1. Fill a martini glass with ice to pre-chill it.
  2. Add gin (or vodka), dry vermouth, and olive brine to a mixing glass filled with ice cubes.
  3. Stir until very cold, for about 30 seconds.
  4. Discard the ice from the cocktail glass.
  5. Strain the contents of the mixing glass through a bar strainer into the ice-cold glass.
  6. Garnish with one or three green olives on a pick.
