Description
The Dirty Martini is a popular variation of the classic Dry Martini for those who enjoy a savory twist. The "dirty" part of the name comes from the addition of olive brine (the liquid from the olive jar), which gives the drink a slightly cloudy appearance and a distinctive salty, umami-rich flavor. It is a very potent and sophisticated cocktail, with its quality heavily dependent on the quality of the gin (or vodka) and the olive brine used.
Preparation
- Fill a martini glass with ice to pre-chill it.
- Add gin (or vodka), dry vermouth, and olive brine to a mixing glass filled with ice cubes.
- Stir until very cold, for about 30 seconds.
- Discard the ice from the cocktail glass.
- Strain the contents of the mixing glass through a bar strainer into the ice-cold glass.
- Garnish with one or three green olives on a pick.
