Description
The Whisky Flip is a historic cocktail belonging to the "flip" family—drinks made with a whole egg. This method was popular as early as the 17th century and gives the cocktail an incredibly rich, creamy, and velvety texture. The drink is essentially a simple mixture of whiskey, sugar, and egg. The result is a nutritious and delicious after-dinner drink, reminiscent of eggnog but significantly more elegant. The freshly grated nutmeg garnish is essential as it contributes a warm, spicy aroma.
Preparation
- Add all ingredients to a cocktail shaker.
- First, perform a "Dry Shake" (without ice) for at least 20 seconds to perfectly emulsify the egg.
- Fill the shaker with ice and shake again very vigorously ("Wet Shake") until it is ice-cold.
- Strain the contents through a fine sieve into a pre-chilled coupe glass.
- Grate a pinch of fresh nutmeg over the surface.
