Description
The Rum Sour is a classic variation of the sour cocktail that uses dark rum as its base instead of whiskey. This modification gives the drink a warmer, sweeter, and often perceived as more tropical note. The rich molasses and caramel flavors of the rum harmonize wonderfully with the zesty acidity of the lemon. As with other sours, the optional addition of egg white provides a luxurious, silky texture and a stable foam head that perfectly rounds out the drink.
Preparation
- Add all ingredients to a cocktail shaker.
- Optional (for egg white version): Perform a "Dry Shake" without ice for 15 seconds to froth the egg white.
- Fill the shaker with ice and shake vigorously again ("Wet Shake") until it is ice-cold.
- Fill a tumbler glass with a large, fresh ice cube.
- Strain the contents of the shaker through a fine sieve into the prepared glass.
- Garnish with an orange peel or a cocktail cherry.
