Description
The Pastis Rouge, also known as "Tomate" (Tomato) in France, is a popular and fruity variation of the classic pastis drink. Instead of the pure anise flavor, the addition of grenadine gives the drink a vibrant red color and a pleasant, sweet-fruity note. This combination slightly mellows the intense anise flavor of the pastis, making it more approachable. Topped up with cold water, it is a classic, light, and very refreshing aperitif for a warm summer day.
Preparation
- Pour the pastis and grenadine into a highball glass.
- Slowly add the ice-cold water, which will create the typical milky cloudiness.
- Add a few ice cubes to the glass and stir gently.
- Serve without a garnish.
