Description

The Negroni is the epitome of the Italian aperitif: stylish, complex, and wonderfully bitter. Consisting of just three equal parts – gin, Campari, and sweet vermouth – it is a masterpiece of balance. Its vibrant red color and bold taste make it an unforgettable experience. According to legend, the cocktail was created in Florence in 1919 for Count Camillo Negroni, who asked for his Americano to be "strengthened" with gin instead of soda water. Today, it is a global symbol of sophisticated drinking and a staple in any good bar.

Preparation

  1. Fill a tumbler glass (also known as an Old Fashioned glass) with large, clear ice cubes to pre-chill it.
  2. Pour the gin, Campari, and sweet vermouth directly into the glass.
  3. Gently stir with a bar spoon for about 20 seconds. This chills the drink and combines the ingredients without over-diluting it.
  4. Squeeze an orange peel over the glass to release its essential oils, then drop it into the drink as a garnish. Alternatively, an orange slice can be used.
