It was born in the 1940s in the US when a vodka distributor and a friend who had an overproduction of ginger beer combined their products. They met at the Hollywood Cock'n'Bull bar, where they met a third friend who was trying to market a line of copper mugs. The combination of these three problems—too much vodka, too much ginger beer, and too many copper mugs—led to the birth of the Moscow Mule. The name alludes to vodka, which was considered a Russian drink at the time, while "Mule" hints at the sharpness of the ginger. The coolness of the copper mug, which keeps the drink cold for a particularly long time, became its trademark and is indispensable today.
