Description

The Long Island Iced Tea is one of the most famous and potent cocktails in the world. Its name is misleading, as it contains neither tea nor did it originate in Long Island. The mix of five different white spirits (vodka, gin, rum, tequila, and triple sec) is balanced by lemon juice and simple syrup. A small splash of cola at the end not only gives it its characteristic iced-tea color but also a subtle sweetness and fizziness. Despite its high alcohol content, it is surprisingly easy to drink—making it a cocktail to be enjoyed with respect.

Preparation

  1. Add all ingredients except for the cola to a cocktail shaker filled with ice.
  2. Shake vigorously for about 10-12 seconds.
  3. Strain into a highball glass filled with fresh ice cubes.
  4. Gently top up with a small splash of cola to adjust the color.
  5. Stir briefly once and garnish with a lemon wedge.
