Description
While the Mint Julep is the official drink of the famous horse race, the Kentucky Derby cocktail is an equally delicious and often considered more approachable alternative. This drink is a refreshing sour that combines the rich vanilla and caramel notes of bourbon with the sweetness of vermouth, the fruitiness of orange liqueur, and the zesty acidity of fresh lime juice. The result is a wonderfully balanced and complex cocktail.
Preparation
- Fill a highball glass with fresh ice cubes.
- Add all ingredients to a cocktail shaker filled with ice cubes.
- Shake vigorously until the shaker is ice-cold on the outside.
- Strain the contents of the shaker through a bar strainer into the prepared glass.
- Garnish with a fresh mint sprig.
