Description
The Grasshopper is a sweet, mint-flavored after-dinner drink named for its characteristic green color. It was first created in the early 20th century in New Orleans and gained great popularity in the middle of the century. The cocktail is essentially a liquid "After Eight": the refreshing sharpness of the mint from the crème de menthe is perfectly balanced by the sweet chocolate notes of the crème de cacao and the creamy texture of the cream. It is easy to mix and a timeless favorite for anyone who loves sweet dessert cocktails.
Preparation
- Pre-chill a martini glass or a coupe with ice.
- Add all ingredients to a cocktail shaker filled with ice.
- Shake vigorously until the shaker is ice-cold on the outside.
- Discard the ice from the glass.
- Strain the contents of the shaker through a fine sieve into the chilled glass.
- Optionally, garnish with a fresh mint leaf or some chocolate shavings.
