Description

The Espresso Martini is a relatively young cocktail classic, invented in the 1980s in London by the famous bartender Dick Bradsell. The legend says that a then-unknown model came to his bar and asked for a drink that would "wake me up, then f*** me up." Bradsell improvised by mixing espresso, vodka, coffee liqueur, and simple syrup. The result was a drink that was perfect for after-dinner parties, finding the ideal balance between the bitter coffee, the sweetness of the liqueur, and the strength of the vodka. The characteristic foam crown is created by vigorously shaking the fresh espresso with the other ingredients.

Preparation

  1. Add all ingredients (vodka, coffee liqueur, chilled espresso, simple syrup) to a shaker with ice.
  2. Shake vigorously until a dense foam crown forms and the shaker is very cold on the outside.
  3. Strain the contents through a sieve into a pre-chilled martini glass.
  4. Garnish with the coffee beans, which traditionally symbolize luck, and serve.
