Description
The El Presidente is a classic Cuban cocktail that originated in Havana in the early 1900s and is considered "Cuba's answer to the Martini." It was created in honor of the then-president Gerardo Machado and was a popular drink among American tourists during Prohibition. The drink is an elegant, stirred mixture of light rum, dry vermouth, and a hint of orange and pomegranate. It is drier and more sophisticated than many other rum cocktails.
Preparation
- Pre-chill a coupe glass with ice.
- Add all ingredients to a mixing glass filled with ice cubes.
- Stir until the glass is well-frosted on the outside (about 30 seconds).
- Strain the contents through a bar strainer into the chilled glass.
