Description

The Dark 'n' Stormy is the national drink of Bermuda and one of the few cocktails whose name is trademarked. An "official" Dark 'n' Stormy must be made with Gosling's Black Seal Rum. The name perfectly describes the appearance of the drink: the dark rum (the storm) is poured over the light, bubbly ginger beer (the stormy sea), creating a dramatic layered effect. It's an incredibly simple, yet spicy and refreshing highball that combines the deep molasses notes of the rum with the sharp kick of ginger.

Preparation

  1. Fill a highball glass to the brim with ice cubes.
  2. Pour the ginger beer over the ice until the glass is about three-quarters full.
  3. Slowly pour the Gosling's Black Seal Rum over the back of a spoon onto the surface of the ginger beer to create the layered effect.
  4. Garnish with a lime wedge and serve. The drink is often served unstirred.
