Description

The Corpse Reviver No. 2 is a potent pre-Prohibition cocktail immortalized in the 1930 Savoy Cocktail Book with the famous warning: "Four of these taken in swift succession will un-revive the corpse again." The drink is a perfectly balanced mix of equal parts gin, Lillet Blanc, Cointreau, and lemon juice. The secret that sets it apart from other sours is the "absinthe rinse": the glass is coated with a few drops of absinthe, which imparts a subtle, complex anise aroma to the drink. It is crisp, invigorating, and incredibly aromatic.

Preparation

  1. Pre-chill a coupe glass.
  2. Add a few drops of absinthe to the chilled glass and swirl to coat the inside completely. Discard the excess.
  3. Add the remaining ingredients (gin, Lillet Blanc, Cointreau, lemon juice) to a shaker filled with ice.
  4. Shake vigorously and strain into the prepared glass.
  5. Optionally, garnish with an orange peel.
