Description
The Aviation is a classic cocktail from the early 20th century, known for its beautiful sky-blue to pale-violet color and its unique floral aroma. The drink is a sophisticated blend of gin, the sweet-tart maraschino cherry liqueur, and fresh lemon juice. The crucial ingredient that gives it its color and name is the Crème de Violette. For a long time, this violet liqueur was hard to find, which led to many "Aviation" recipes without it. The original, however, is an unforgettable, complex taste experience.
Preparation
- Pre-chill a coupe glass with ice.
- Add all ingredients to a cocktail shaker filled with ice.
- Shake vigorously until the shaker is ice-cold.
- Strain the contents through a fine sieve into the chilled glass.
- Garnish with a high-quality cocktail cherry.
