Description
The Angel Face is an elegant and potent short drink from the Prohibition era, immortalized in Harry Craddock's famous "Savoy Cocktail Book" of 1930. It is one of the official cocktails of the International Bartenders Association (IBA). The drink consists of three ingredients in equal parts: gin for botanical spice, apricot brandy for fruity sweetness, and Calvados (an apple brandy) for a dry, complex depth. The result is a surprisingly harmonious and flavorful cocktail that, despite its innocent name, packs a considerable punch.
Preparation
- Pre-chill a coupe glass with ice.
- Add all three ingredients to a cocktail shaker filled with ice.
- Shake vigorously until the shaker is ice-cold.
- Discard the ice from the glass.
- Strain the contents of the shaker through a bar strainer into the chilled glass.
- Traditionally, the drink is served without a garnish, but a thin apple slice on the rim of the glass is a fitting addition.
