Description
The Alexander is a silky-smooth classic cocktail from the Prohibition era and the perfect after-dinner drink. Its history dates back to the early 20th century, and it quickly became famous for its luxurious texture and gentle, chocolate-like flavor. Traditionally made with gin, which gives it a subtle botanical depth, it is also often mixed with brandy as the "Brandy Alexander." The combination of spirit, cocoa liqueur, and fresh cream makes it a timeless dessert in a glass.
Preparation
- Pre-chill a coupe or martini glass with ice.
- Add all ingredients (gin, crème de cacao, and cream) to a cocktail shaker filled with ice.
- Shake vigorously for about 15 seconds until the shaker is well-chilled.
- Discard the ice from the glass.
- Strain the contents of the shaker through a fine sieve into the chilled glass to achieve an especially fine texture.
- Grate a pinch of fresh nutmeg over the drink and serve immediately.
