Description
The Tequila Sunrise is famous for its beautiful color gradient, which resembles a sunrise and gives the drink its name. The drink became popular in California in the 1970s and is a prime example of a simple yet visually stunning cocktail. It is built directly in the glass and not shaken. The heavy, red grenadine syrup is added last and slowly sinks to the bottom, creating the characteristic "sunrise" effect. It is a sweet, fruity, and very approachable tequila cocktail.
Preparation
- Fill a highball glass with ice cubes.
- Add the tequila and orange juice to the glass.
- Stir gently.
- Slowly pour the grenadine over the back of a spoon or down the side of the glass. It will sink to the bottom.
- Do not stir again to preserve the color gradient.
- Garnish with an orange slice and a cocktail cherry.
