Description
The Piña Colada is pure Caribbean in a drink. The name literally means "strained pineapple" and perfectly describes the main ingredient of this world-famous tropical cocktail. The creamy, sweet drink was likely invented in the 1950s in a bar in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Its irresistible mix of rum, creamy coconut, and fruity pineapple instantly puts you in a vacation mood. A hint of lime juice is the secret to balancing the sweetness and adding a fresh note to the drink. Whether on the beach or at home, a Piña Colada is always a mini-vacation.
Preparation
- Add all ingredients (rum, pineapple juice, cream of coconut, and lime juice) to a blender.
- Add a good handful of ice cubes (about one cup).
- Blend on high for about 15-20 seconds until a creamy, smooth consistency is achieved and no ice chunks remain.
- Pour the contents into a chilled Hurricane glass or another large, curved glass.
- Garnish with a fresh pineapple wedge and a cocktail cherry. Serve with a straw.
